Instructions for Class Projects
ALPHABET DISCOVERY BOTTLES: Use any type of plastic jar, bottle, etc. Ones with larger openings, like peanut butter or mayo jars, are easiest to work with. Include 3-5 items that begin with the letter of the week. Pour in salt, sugar, rice, beans, sand, water, etc. as a “medium” for the items. Children enjoy turning them over to look for the items hiding inside. You can take your jar home at the end of the year if you like, or you can donate it to our class.
ALPHABET “FEELY” BAG: The bag will be sent home with a child each week. Fill the bag with at least 3 items that begin with the letter of the week for the children to FEEL to identify. They have fun feeling inside the bag and trying to guess what they are feeling! Items will be sent home at the end of the week.
BINDI BEAR: Bindi will have a sleep over every weekend with a different child. He will come with a binder that will include a page for you to fill in the blanks about what he did with your family that weekend. There is space of the back of the page for pictures. You can print them on regular paper from you computer, nothing fancy! The children absolutely love taking Bindi home and looking through the book at his many adventures!
PLAYDOUGH: Following is the recipe:
3 Cups Flour
1 ½ Cups Salt
3 Tablespoons Oil
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
3 Cups Water
Liquid water color or food color
Combine all ingredients, including color as needed. Cook over low heat until mixture is no longer sticky to the touch. Knead the playdough until you get the desired texture.
*Feel free to add scents during seasons like peppermint for Christmas or Valentines, All Spice for November or December, etc. I have heard Jell-o adds color and smell but have not tried it myself. The children love it! If it is “accidentally” tasted, it’s OK!
ALPHABET BOOK HOMEWORK: Each child has his own homework workbook. There is a page, on the left, for the children to do at home WITH YOUR ASSISTANCE! There is also a page for them to do at school. PLEASE be sure to do the correct page each week.
