First Grade News

April 27, 2012

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all our chaperones who came with us on our field trip to Camp Chowenwaw.  We had a great time. We really appreciate your help.

Please review the following information for next week:

·      Show and Share –Last names I-M. The theme is “Spring”.

·      Spelling –Lesson 27

how, cow, down, out, found, round, try, light, earth, table

·      School Fund Raiser—Please check the paper packet for a flyer explaining our school fund raiser, Pennies for Pasta, to benefit the Leukemia Society. The children may bring in their change starting Monday, April 30th. The collection will continue until May 4th.

·      Math—The children are learning to count sets of coins including quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.  Please review this at home. The children need to know the name and value of each coin and be able to count them in mixed sets. Working on memorization of Math facts should be part of each night’s homework.

·      Paper towels and Kleenex—We are in need of these once again. Thank you for your generosity.

·      Money in Envelopes—Please remember that all money turned in for any reason needs to be in a labeled envelope.

·      Springtime Read and Feed—On Friday, May 4th the first graders will enjoy lunch and then read with big brothers and sisters. The children will need to bring a lunch and drink that day. No purchases from the cafeteria. Please also send in a beach towel for your child to use. We will picnic on the school grounds.
