Dear Parents,

Welcome to first grade!  We have some very exciting activities and experiences planned for your child.

In order to start the year off smoothly, we have enclosed the following information.  Updates will be in the weekly paper packet letters.

Please be sure that all supplies have been purchased.  We will send slips home periodically when materials need replacing.  Also, due to bookkeeping procedures, we can accept only money that is presented in a sealed envelope that is clearly labeled. This applies to all money sent in for any reason throughout the school year.

PE class times are as follows:

            1R and 1K – Tuesday and Thursday

The children should come to school in their PE clothes.

Music class days are as follows:

             1R and 1K – Tuesday and Thursday

Art class days are as follows:

1R – Friday afternoon

1K – Friday morning

Computer/Library schedules are as follows:

1R – Monday at 9:10

            1K – Monday at 8:10

Please be sure library books are returned by Monday morning.

The purpose of homework is to review skills previously taught.  Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday.  Please check the homework for accuracy and neatness.  Please sign the homework above your child’s name.  This indicates that you have reviewed the assignment with your child.

Please review the Parent Handbook, especially the sections regarding tardies, medication, illness, and uniform dress code. Please return the signature page by Wednesday, August 19th.

“Show and Share”, an activity to develop oral language skills, will take place each Friday for both classes.  Your child’s class will be divided into three groups.  Groups for each week’s “Show and Share” will be announced in the paper packet letters. If there is no school on a Friday, there is no “Show and Share” that week.

Lunch tickets are only sold on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The children are responsible for handling their own tickets.  All tickets should be labeled with your child’s name. Please print clearly.

Paper packet letters will be sent home at the end of each week.  They will include your child’s work and other important notes.  Please go through the packet with your child each week.  Sign the bottom portion of the letter and return it in the paper packet folder on Monday.

There will be quarterly birthday parties. Specific dates, times, and details will be sent home in writing.  Room mothers will contact you in reference to these celebrations.

Our first grade discipline policy stresses a positive approach.  Children will bring home a weekly behavior chart each day in their homework folders.  Good behavior will be rewarded each day with ONE stamp on the chart.  If your child has shown an extra effort to  follow class rules, he/she may receive two stamps for that day.  If your child comes home without a stamp, this indicates that a classroom rule was not followed.

On Friday, the chart will be attached to the paper packet letter.  This is yours to keep.  A new chart will come home each week.   Please support this system at home by keeping abreast of your child’s progress and signing the chart each evening.

All volunteers, chaperones, and visitors to the school campus must be cleared through the Diocese. This includes fingerprinting and Protecting God’s Children. All paper work must be processed and approved before participating in any field trip or volunteer activity on campus.

We are looking forward to a great year with your first grader!  Thank you for your support!
